Hi, I have a catalina 27 with an inboard Universal m-18 diesel engine. About a month ago, I noticed that the RPM would not go over 2000 when in gear. Typically I cruise at 2200 RPM and could go up to 3000 if I wanted to. It will still go up to 30000 RPM when in neutral. Air filter looks like... Our TD5 had this a few years ago and it seemed to hit a brick wall at just under 3000 RPM because the turbo was over-boosting and the ECU was cutting the fuel. It has done it once more since. thats strange. usually the only time you go into limp mode it comes with a check engine light. limp mode is so you dont melt the cats. if all you did was get an alignment there is something strange there. look and make sure they didnt mess with anything. sounds like to me the catalatic converter is plugged up, usually if you cant get an engine to rev anything over 2000 2500 rpms it has a breathing problem... its a real good possiblity its the converter causing your problem, especially if you had problems with another engine at any time, with like antifreeze issues, or fuel issues.. it goes strait to the exhaust and out the tail pipe.
